On December 2nd, 2021, the UAE will be celebrating its 50th annual UAE National Day, commemorating the union of the seven emirates into one nation. It will be fifty glorious years since UAE chose to rise to be known as one of the most powerful nations in the world. Here is a short history that you might be interested in.

Initially, the country was disparately controlled by rival groups that were mostly scattered across different areas. Then in 1820, the British offered to unify them in return that they gain some control over existing land. As the tribes craved for peace, they took the opportunity to settle their disputes and sit down together to amalgamate the lands. The British left in 1968 as it experienced financial losses in the region. However, the spirit of unification remained, and rulers of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ai-Ain, Sharjah, Ajman and Umm al-Quwain decided to stick together. Thus, as the nation announced its independence from the British on December 2nd, 1971, it also saw the formation of the UAE or the United Arab Emirates. The ruler of Ras Al Khaimah joined, later becoming the seventh emirate.

The country had achieved freedom from colonial rule and the merger of the federal states in absolute peace!

Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Emir of Abu Dhabi and the richest amongst the seven emirates, became the first president of the UAE and raised the national flag. Today, UAE is considered one of the most influential nations globally, with a flourishing economy and even comprising the tallest building in the world.
